This fall, our Solid Rock News Crew is transforming! Due to rising printing costs, our newspaper is going FULLY DIGITAL, making it accessible anytime via QR code or website link. Welcome to the future of news!

 

Create It All – Front Page to Fun Stuff!

You’ll help build all main sections of the paper including Front Page, Sports, Interviews, Classified Ads, Book Reviews and more!! Jump in to write articles, conduct interviews, and design eye-catching graphics using Canva and AI tools!

 

Tech Skills, Deadlines & Hot Cocoa Vibes

New to this? No worries! If you can type, click, and browse, you’re already halfway there. Our experienced Crew Captains will help guide the way. Yes… there will be real deadlines, but also music, teamwork, and hot chocolate while you create!

 

Gear Up for Creativity

You’ll need a laptop or tablet with Canva ready to go (app or website saved as a favorite). ⚠️ Tech Tip: School-issued Chromebooks and cell phones don’t work well with Canva and other programs. A personal device is strongly recommended.

• Crew Captains – Lead Strong, Shine Bright!

For returning students: Help lead the class, track article progress, manage deadlines, and cheer on new teammates as they find their voice. Crew Captains is open to students with at least one completed semester of News Crew to ensure experience with Canva, journalism, news editing and article deadlines.

• LevelUP Squad – Game Masters Unite!

Also, for returning students: Take charge of our entire Games & Puzzles section! Create quizzes, brain teasers, and interactive fun using LearningApps.org to engage our readers. LevelUP is open to students with at least one completed semester of News Crew to ensure everyone knows the journalism basics first.

 

Faith & Team Spirit

Every day includes a mini devo, prayer, and even a little trivia for candy…and did we mention Hot Cocoa? This class is about helping students grow in faith, leadership, and confidence—using their God-given creativity to be a powerful, positive voice through the news.

Hey Parents – Important Info:

• Class Fee: $10 per student (tech and supply costs)
• Device Setup Help: Meet Ms. Veronica at Solid Rock’s Open House for tech support. Bring your student’s device!
  (If you can’t attend, instructions will be emailed.)
• Personal Canva account: Helpful but not required.
• Reminder on Devices: School Chromebooks & cell phones = big Canva struggles. Personal laptops or tablets work best!
