Class Description
This will be a beginners class, teaching the fundamental skills of hand and machine sewing. We will discuss sewing tools and terminology, basic stitch techniques, fabric types, project pattern reading/tracing, as well as cutting techniques. We will be making (subject to change) a fabric bookmark, book sleeve, simple tote bag, rice heating pad, hair bow, small snap pouch, and drink coasters. Some simple hand sewing may be required at home to finish a project if we do not have enough class time, but I will try to make sure we have plenty of time to complete our projects in class. I will supply one small sewing kit for each student. Students need to bring 1 ruler, 1 yard of solid fabric, 1 yard of patterned fabric, and 1 new pair of scissors (do not need special scissors but if they have cut paper/plastic/cardboard, they will not cut fabric well).
